Designed for assistant managers and managers who are intending to go contract milking within the next 18 months.

Gain tools for smart financial decisions, connect with other farmers, and learn in a fun, relaxed setting.

In this course you will learn:

  • How a contract works, including obligations and responsibilities for both parties.
  • To assess the financial viability of a contract milking or variable order sharemilker position.
  • What can trip you up as a contract milker.
  • How to assess different contract milking opportunities and make good decisions.
  • To understand the value of independent advice when negotiating a contract and being self-employed.
  • How to assess issues and risks and how to manage and mitigate them.

Course Details

Four in-person workshops held between milkings, or eight online workshops, in daytime or evening. Small class sizes with limited numbers.

Qualification: Earn the Preparing Dairy Farmers for Contract Milking Opportunities (15 NZQA Level 5 credits).

Course requirements

To be eligible for our courses, you must be a New Zealand citizen or hold a NZ resident visa. You will be required to complete an assessment to demonstrate your learning. You must bring a laptop (ideally) or device to course days to access course materials, editable documents, and assessments.
